ITEM 102-1503-R0399  Approval of Proposal to Add a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences; Montana Tech of The University of Montana

THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana Tech of The University of Montana to add a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences.

EXPLANATION: Biology and the life sciences have in recent times become a central and many times critical part of engineering programs. As a result, Montana Tech currently offers a full array of undergraduate courses in the biological sciences as a service to engineering, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, bachelor of applied science degrees, and numerous transfer programs. The addition of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences at Montana Tech will diversify the degree offerings of the college, better serving its students and the state at a minimal cost. It will also substantially add to enrollment and student retention.
