ITEM 103-1015-R0599 Resolution Concerning the Retirement of Frances Hill, Professor of Psychology, College of Arts and Sciences; The University of Montana-Missoula
THAT: Frances Hill, Professor of Psychology, in her 33 years of dedicated service to The University of Montana, has merited the commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned the title of Professor of Psychology Emeritus.
EXPLANATION: Frances Hill earned her Ph.D. degree in 1965 from Ohio State University. After a one-year post-doctoral appointment at the University of Connecticut, Professor Hill joined the faculty of The University of Montana in 1966, spending her entire career here. Professor Hill has always been dedicated to the cause of quality instruction. Although both her undergraduate and graduate social psychology courses have always been rigorous and demanding, students flocked to these courses with regularity--a testament to her teaching effectiveness and her interest in the students’ welfare and education.
In 1990, Professor Hill assumed the role of coordinator of the introductory psychology course, one of the most popular courses on campus. It was our good fortune that this dedicated and experienced full professor would volunteer to oversee this most fundamental of courses and ensure its continued high quality. Her dedication to the welfare of our students has also been the hallmark of Professor Hill’s role as the department’s Advising and Undergraduate Studies Coordinator. In this capacity, Professor Hill has always been a leader and a meticulous administrator. In 1995, Professor Hill was honored with the "Outstanding Academic Advisor Award." In our mind, Professor Hill has always been an outstanding faculty member and University citizen.
The Department of Psychology is honored to recommend Professor Frances Hill for Emeritus status.
