RE: Campus Report for the November 16-17, 2000 Board of Regents Meeting

        The Professional & Technical Communication Department will receive nearly $20,000 to develop a multimedia presentation about mine waste pollution, remediation and restoration in the Upper Clark Fork River Basin suitable for primary through middle school audiences. This grant is funded from Montana's Natural Resource Damage Program.

        Dr. Larry Twidwell, Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering will receive the prestigious AIME Mineral Industry Education Award for 2001.

        Montana Tech hosted a Scholarship Banquet honoring all scholarship donors and student recipients on Thursday, November 9, 2000. This year over $540,000 was awarded in scholarships. The event was sponsored by the Montana Tech Foundation.

        Montana Tech will be offering 12 Distance Learning Classes for Spring Semester 2000-01.

        On October 30, Senator Conrad Burns announced that Montana Tech is slated to get funding in the amount of $1.8 million for the Miner Training Program (pending signature by the President). The grant would be to assist in providing vocational training for underground miners, laborers and mechanics.
