ITEM 107-1018-R0500  Resolution Concerning the Retirement of Richard P. Sheridan, Professor of Botany, College of Arts and Sciences; The University of Montana-Missoula


THAT: Richard P. Sheridan, Professor of Botany, in his 31 years of dedicated service to The University of Montana, has merited the commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned the title of Professor of Botany Emeritus.

EXPLANATION: Richard P. Sheridan began his career at The University of Montana in 1969. He has provided 31 years of continuous service, first in the Department of Botany and later in the Division of Biological Sciences when it formed in 1988. Professor Sheridan developed and sustained a well-deserved reputation as an exceptionally capable and dedicated teacher who is deeply committed to his students. His many courses in a broad array of plant sciences have represented significant contributions to the high-quality education of botany, biological sciences, and forestry students. Professor Sheridan's research specialty is in plant physiological ecology, with a recent focus on factors controlling nitrogen fixation in tropical mangrove communities. He was a valuable ambassador for the University in his international work. His research resulted in numerous publications and presentations spanning more than 35 years.

In recognition of his accomplishments and meritorious service, the Division of Biological Sciences recommends Professor Richard P. Sheridan for Emeritus status.
