ITEM 112-1008-R0701 Professor Emeritus Status for I. Keith Yale, Professor of Mathematical Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences; The University of Montana-Missoula
THAT: Keith Yale, after thirty-two years of dedicated service to The University of Montana, has merited the commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned the title of Professor of Mathematical Sciences Emeritus.
EXPLANATION: Keith Yale came to the Mathematics Department as an undergraduate student in 1957. He received a B.A. in Mathematics in 1960. After some graduate work, he joined the Department as an Instructor in September 1964. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley in 1967 and returned to the Department as an Assistant Professor. Professor Yale was promoted to Professor in 1976, and in 1982 he received the University's Distinguished Teaching Award. Throughout his career, Professor Yale has been recognized as an excellent teacher and advisor. He served the Department as Chair from 1984 to 1987.
In addition to his teaching record, Professor Yale has consistently been a contributor to research in mathematics. He has published articles and conducted seminars in mathematical analysis. He has sponsored numerous conferences and collaborations, bringing prominent mathematical scholars to the University. Three doctoral students have finished under his direction. He has been advisor and teacher to many students at the master's degree level. As a student, a young professor, a scholar, a leader, and finally as a senior resource, Professor Yale has overseen and nurtured tremendous growth in the Department of Mathematical Sciences for over forty years.
