ITEM 112-1604-R0901 Approval of Proposal to Reorganize the Academic Affairs Division into a School of Education, Business, and Technology; a College of Arts and Sciences; and a School of Outreach; The University of Montana-Western

 

THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes The University of Montana-Western to reorganize its Academic Affairs Division into a School of Education, Business, and Technology; a College of Arts and Sciences; and a School of Outreach.

 

EXPLANATION: This new academic structure will facilitate the greater incorporation of technology into Western's core teacher education programs as well as providing other efficiencies and synergies between Western's professional and technical programs. This change does not result in an increase in the number of academic units at Western. The proposed structure reflects the realignment of Western's Business and Technology Department with its current Education Division to create a school focusing on professional and technical studies headed by a single dean. This structure employs the use of existing administrative positions. An existing Arts and Sciences faculty member receiving part-time release from teaching will fill the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
