ITEM 113-2003-R1101 Increase Authorization to Renovate a Portion of AJM Johnson Hall; Montana State University-Bozeman
THAT: Consistent with the provisions of MCA 18-2-102, the Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University-Bozeman to renovate a portion of AJM Johnson Hall to accommodate research laboratories for faculty, research technicians and graduate students in the Ecology Department. This request is to increase the original authority by an additional $255,000, for a total authority of $780,000.
EXPLANATION:
- In September, 2000, the Board of Regents approved $525,000 in authority to allow MSU-Bozeman to renovate (design and construction) a portion of AJM Johnson Hall.
- The basement and a portion of the first floor were vacated by the Physics Dept., at the completion of the Engineering/Physical Sciences Building Project and is available for renovation to accommodate research and academic uses for the Ecology Department.
- The increased authority is required to accommodate city mandated fire and life safety improvements (new egress windows in the basement and exit corridor reconstruction) that were unidentified at the time of the original design estimate.
- This project will be financed with indirect cost recovery funds from research grants, and will result in no new programs.
- This project requires the authorization of the Board of Regents and the consent of the Governor.
