ITEM 122-2002-R0304: Authorization to Confer the Title of Professor Emeritus of Extension upon David Streufert; Montana State University-Bozeman
THAT: Upon the occasion of the retirement of David Streufert from Montana State University, the Board of Regents wishes to express its appreciation for his service to the University, the Montana University System and the people of the State of Montana.
EXPLANATION: Born in Sunnyside, Washington, Dave Streufert earned a BA in Industrial Education from the University of Washington in Seattle. He then earned his MS in Soil Science from the University of Minnesota. From 1969-72, Dave was a member of the United States Air Force. In 1978, Dave was hired to be the Extension Agent for Deer Lodge and Powell counties. In July 1981, Dave began his assignment as the fulltime Extension Agent for Powell County in the town of Deer Lodge. He has been in this position ever since.
Dave's Extension program includes extensive collaboration and facilitation efforts within Powell County. He has been instrumental in the development of the community Adult Education program, youth environmental education tours, weed management grants, and alternative energy sources for the enhanced utilization of rangelands. Throughout his career Dave has proven to be a valued member of Extension and an advocate for MSU.
He has been active in his community, earning the Powell County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award. He has served as vice president and president of the Montana Association of County Agricultural Agents. He has been recognized by the national association, having earned the Achievement Award, the Career Guidance Award and Distinguished Service Award. He also earned the Silver Buffalo Award, Montana's highest Extension award.
For these and many other reasons, the Board of Regents of Higher Education is pleased to confer upon David Streufert the status of Professor Emeritus of Extension at Montana State University-Bozeman and thanks him for his outstanding service to Montana.
