ITEM 122-301-R0304:  BUDGET AMENDMENT - FISCAL YEAR 2004 Flathead Valley Community College

THAT: The Board of Regents authorizes Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) to increase their operating budget by $445,000.

 

EXPLANATION: 20-15-312 MCA requires:

The board of regents shall review the proposed total operating budget and all its components and make any changes it determines necessary. The board of trustees of a community college district shall operate within the limits of the operating budget approved by the board of regents.

Flathead Valley Community College has enrolled approximately 227.09 FTE over the original budget for FY2004. FVCC does not receive any state support for these students. Of the additional tuition generated from these FTE, the college is requesting an additional $154,000 to pay for the increased cost of adjunct faculty and full-time faculty overloads.

The Heavy Equipment Operations Program was created as a one-time, one year program to meet the needs of the community's displaced workers from layoffs by some of the community's larger employers. Since the program was developed as a one-year program, there was no base budget request. There are 42 FTE served by this program. Of the tuition and fees generated from this program, the college is requesting an additional $291,000 to pay for the cost of program operations.

The Board of Trustees for Flathead Valley Community College has approved this budget amendment.
