ITEM 124-2004-R0904  Renew Authorization to Reroof Fieldhouse Dome; Montana State University- Bozeman

THAT: Consistent with Regent's Policy and provisions of MCA 20-25-302, the Board of Regents of the Montana University System renews authorization for MSU-Bozeman to reroof the Fieldhouse at MSU-Bozeman. This request also increases the authorized amount by 6.8% to $2,350,000.

 

EXPLANATION: 1. The Fieldhouse is located on the south side of the MSU-Bozeman campus. The Fieldhouse is open to students, staff, faculty and campus visitors and is heavily used for athletic programs, academic programs, special events, and public service events throughout the year.

2. The Fieldhouse was constructed in 1958, and the original dome roofing served until 1980, when the dome was coated with urethane roofing applied over the original roof material. The urethane roofing and insulation has reached the end of its useful life and is now failing. This project removes both the urethane roofing and the original built-up asphalt roof, applies new insulation and a new roof membrane.

3. Regent's Item #113-2004-R1101, was approved at $2,200,000, and due to Regent's Policy, is set to expire in November, 2004. The project began construction in Fall, 2003, is now approximately 80% complete, and we have expended ~$1.75 million to date. Substantial completion should occur in November, 2004, with final punch list items being completed in Spring, 2005. A number of change orders and the need for a slightly larger contingency require that the authority be increased to $2.35 million.

4. This project is financed with maintenance funds from Auxiliary Operations Revenue (Renewal and Replacement Budget) in excess of debt service obligations.
