ITEM 126-2851-R0305  Approval of Proposal to Establish a Certificate in Creative Arts Enterprise; Montana State University-Great Falls, College of Technology

 

THAT:   The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University-Great Falls, College of Technology to offer a Certificate in Creative Arts Enterprise to be delivered as part of its offerings in Great Falls. The proposed certificate responds to the demonstrated needs of area students who want to launch a sustainable career in creative enterprise by developing a broader knowledge of business, while enhancing their skills in the craft of their art.

 

EXPLANATION:  Montana State University-Great Falls, College of Technology is charged with creating degree programs that enhance workforce development and lead to well-paying jobs for Montanans. A Certificate in Creative Arts Enterprise will aid students who want to establish careers in the creative sector of the economy, that portion of the economy driven by the work of artists, artisans, arts-based businesses, and non-profit organizations. Recent studies of Montana's economic sectors have targeted creative enterprises as a promising sector for development and have recommended programming to respond to that need.
