Information Technology Governance
Information technology (IT) governance is comprised of the people and processes that ensure the effective and efficient use of IT in enabling the Montana University System (MUS) to achieve its goals. Based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, IT governance throughout the MUS establishes a framework to provide assurance that information security and IT investment strategies are aligned with and support the objectives of the MUS. In an effort to manage risk, MUS governance documents assign responsibility, require communication with the Board of Regents, and are consistent with applicable laws and regulations.
Adherence to Board of Regent’s policy 1300.1, several system-level documents, and campus level policies, procedures, and internal controls help to define the MUS IT and security governance strategy.
